Monarch butterfly chrysalis attacked by the parasitic tachnid fly evidenced by the white tendril.
The female fly lays eggs in the caterpillar, the maggots emerge and drop to the ground on the gelatinous tendril.
This is the reason Caretakers take preacutions to keep the Monarch caterpillars found and secured in the fine mesh butterfly cage.
