Waterstone 2013 Census Reptiles-And-Amphibians Gallery
One of our workers yelled "snake!" as I turned around ...and spotted a Western Coachwhip. I managed to capture it with my cell phone yesterday. A sleek, beautiful creature, it's about six feet long.
After we watched each other awhile it glided off and disappeared into the leaf litter around a live oak tree a few feet back along an old barbed wire fence we were inspecting. These snakes can crawl as fast as a man can run.
They're called coachwhips because they're long and their skin looks braided.
