  • Saw Painted Bunting eating Finch Festival seed mix from Audubon
  • Found juvenile Indigo Bunting dead. It was in its first or second year.
  • Bird strike protection installed for the glass windows

Caretakers Note: To protect birds from striking glass windows, we covered the top part of the window with mesh about 4 inches from the glass. The mesh screen is stapled tight and firm to act as protection so the birds bounce off instead of crashing into the window glass.

  • Noticed erosion from yesterday's rain and planned mitigation to reduce runoff
  • Saw three male Indigo Bunting and one female
  • Clay-colored Sparrow
  • Great Blue heron's nest with one baby in nest
  • Male Painted Bunting
  • Female Painted Bunting
  • Saw a tiny green beetle thought to be a Green Scarab

Caretaker's note: Wide shot of tiny dung beetle shows its size compared to yellow pieces of milo and sunflower seeds on the ground.

Another 2.8 inches of much needed rain

  • Saw a very large Ruby-throated Hummingbird, believed to be pregnant, also known as gravid
  • Indigo Buntings

Caretaker's note: New species added to bird list! Saw two Indigo Buntings, one male and one female, attracted to the Finch Festival seed mix.
