April 16 2011

  • While observing dying Ashe Juniper, we found spider webs on the leaves. Spider mites have been damaging the Ashe Juniper trees and this spider was eating the spider mites. Look for the tiny red animal at the edge of the leaf near the center of the photograph.

  • A large hawk flew overhead and into a tree near the bird feeding area
  • Saw a Scrub Jaye at seedball
  • Refreshed all Hummingbird feeders
  • Filled the 1000 gallon Rain tank with well water for the water drip in pans behind the Rain Barn

April 12 2011

  • Surveyed South East corner with Oak Wilt treatment, all treated trees are still fine
  • Saw Skunk feeding with the Raccoons at feeding area
  • Saw Rock Squirrell and Gray Squirrell
  • Rain! but only 1/10 inch

  • Shot male Brown-headed Cowbird
  • Looked inside Purple Martin House nest box and found a nest with 4 eggs
  • removed Red Wasp nests from other gourd nest boxes
  • Many Hummingbirds, as many as 5 per feeder at dusk
  • Saw Fire-flies after dark

Extreme drought conditions, noticed many dead and stressed Ashe Juniper trees.
